APPROACH

Burr Osteotomy, No Fixation, Specialised Dressing

01

Clinical Rationale

Both fifth metatarsals were cut and displaced percutaneously using a low-velocity, high-torque burr that generates no heat. No fixation was required — the correction was held by dressing technique alone, and the patient walked from day one.

02

Surgical Approach

Both sides were corrected with a percutaneous osteotomy and displacement using a low-velocity, high-torque Shannon burr that generates no heat. The bone was cut without the need for fixation, with specialised dressing techniques maintaining the correction.

Imaging & Progression

Pre-operative imaging, intra-operative views and post-operative results. Each slot maps to a CMS image field — drop in the matching consented file from the case folder.

#1

MIS surgeries are a boon for lesser toe deformities, avoiding large incisions.

#2

Low-velocity, high-torque Shannon burrs cut bone without generating damaging heat.

#3

Bone cut with a burr mostly does not require any fixation.

#4

Specialised dressing techniques are key to maintaining the correction post-operatively.

04

Clinical Care Points

RIGHT SIDE

    i) Percutaneous osteotomy & displacement
    ii) Shannon burr, no fixation
    iii) Specialised correction dressing
    iv) Ambulatory from day one

LEFT SIDE

    i) Same percutaneous technique mirrored on left
    ii) Burr osteotomy without fixation
    iii) Specialised dressing maintains correction
iv) Both sides ambulatory from day one

Percutaneous Surgery for Lesser Toe Deformities

A bilateral bunionette corrected entirely through minimally invasive percutaneous surgery — burr osteotomy with no fixation, and the patient walking from day one.

The patient presented with painful bunionette deformities affecting both feet. Prominence along the outer side of the forefoot made shoes uncomfortable and altered pressure beneath the fifth metatarsal region. A bilateral percutaneous correction was chosen to reduce the prominences through very small incisions.
